Nakuru Boys Home Update Part 2

...After introductions and a wonderful presentation by the boys, we went outside for the activities we had planned for them: Olympics Nakuru Style!!

Team members David and Mark prepared several "Olympic" events for the boys to participated in both team events and individuals events. After David explained the plan for the afternoon he divided the 60 kids into four groups. Then he had the boys gather around him for the GCC Team Chant. The boys were very enthusiastic.

We started with team events, most of which were different kinds of relay races: three-legged race, dribbling a soccer ball, bear crawl/crab walk and long jump. These events were perfect for kids as they laughted themselves silly competing against each other. There was a lot of falling down, some cheating, but a lot of laughing either way. The individual events were similar, only they competed against each other buy age group.

Following the competition, there wa an award ceremony, complete with medals for each boy. The winning teams and individuals got special "silver" and "gold" medals. Then, in typical Nakuru tradition, the boys fell into dancing once again! If there was any wonder if the kids were not completely worn out (we adults certainly were), they danced away having a great old time. It was especially fun to watch hom the kids cheer one an other on. They formed a circle and one boy would step out into the middle and show his moves - followed by much cheering. Even the littlest ones (as young as 7 or 8) got into the action.

It was hard to head back to the hotel that night. I think all of us whished we were able to spend more quality time with the boys. The visit seemed all to brief. however, we know they had fun, and we were able to plant memories in their hearts for many years to come. We will continue to pray for them, and look forward to watching them grow into strong young men.

Couple New Photos

Here Comes Monday

Monday will be an interesting day for the team.

They will go into Kibera,. Kibera is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the city center. Kibera is the largest slum in Nairobi, and the largest urban slum in Africa. The team will be able to walk through a part of the slums. Praying with anyone who is willing to talk with them.

They will also be able to visit and help at the feeding station and school run by CMIA.

Then they will have an afternoon of rest. Lunch at Carnivore Restaurant and a visit to Kazuri Beads and Hardy Curios.

Pray for the team as they head down in to Kibera. Pray for guidance, safety and open hearts.
